As the state gears up for the ensuing Assam Assembly election 2021, a flying squad team in the Dhubri district on Wednesday seized 2,300 Yaba tablets worth Rs 10 lakh.

The flying squad team arrested a drug peddler in connection with the seizure.

The district administration of Dhubri has formed flying squad team (FST) to act promptly against those whose activities may disturb the peaceful situation in the election-bound district.

The flying squad teams are assisting the Election Commission to conduct a free, fair and peaceful Assam Assembly election 2021.

The flying squad team seized the consignment of psychotropic Yaba tablets and arrested the drug peddler from Jhapasabari area under Agomani police station in Golakganj Assembly constituency, said police.

It is estimated that the seized Yaba tablets would cost Rs 10 lakh in the international market, said police.

Acting on a tip-off, the FST comprising Assam Police personnel and district magistrate, constituted under the Golakganj Assembly constituency, seized the Yaba tablets.

The arrested drug peddler has been identified as Mohibul Hoque, officials said.

It is suspected that the seized Yaba tablets were smuggled being to Bangladesh through drug peddlers in lower Assam’s Dhubri district.

Yaba is known as madness drug or Nazi speed. It is a combination of a number of stimulants.

The two main substances that make up the drug are caffeine and methamphetamine.

Yaba is a drug in tablet form and it is most often red in colour with the letters ‘WY’ imprinted on it.

Thailand is one of the largest distributors of Yaba tablets but Myanmar is one of the biggest producers of this banned drug.
