AICC general secretary and two-time Congress MLA Bhupen Bora filed his nomination before the District Returning Officer at North Lakhimpur.

With Tuesday being the last day to file nominations for the first phase of Assembly elections in Assam, political bigwigs cutting across party lines made a beeline to file nominations.

The Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Asom Gana Parichad (AGP) candidates from various LACs on Monday filed their nominations in Lakhimpur district.

AICC general secretary and two-time Congress MLA Bhupen Bora filed his nomination before the District Returning Officer at North Lakhimpur to contest the assembly polls from Bihpuria constituency.

BJP’s Manab Deka also filed his nomination for the  Lakhimpur LAC before the District Returning Officer at North Lakhimpur.

Jayanta Khaund, the AGP candidate for Nowboicha seat also filed his nomination before the same Returning Officer at North Lakhimpur.

P&RD minister Naba Kumar Doley filed his nomination for Dhakuwakhona LAC before the Sub-Divisional Returning Officer at Dhakuwakhona.

The district administration put barricades on roads leading to the deputy commissioner’s office in North Lakhimpur to enforce strict Covid protocol during the nomination filing period allowing only two supporters to accompany the candidates inside the office.
