Chattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel on Wednesday said the BJP government at the Centre has miserably failed to adopt a policy to improve the living standard of the farmers and the destitute people.

While addressing an election campaign for Jonai’s Congress candidate Dr Hema Hari Prasanna Pegu on Wednesday, Baghel said the Centre has also failed to control the prices of petroleum products, food and other essential commodities.

Baghel came down heavily on the ruling party saying that the BJP has failed to keep promises made during the last elections.

“The BJP during the last election assured of creating 5 lakh job every year and develop express highway on the banks of the Brahmaputra in Assam but it has done nothing in this regard,” Baghel said.

According to Baghel, the former Congress government at the Centre never pushed the countrymen into trouble as the BJP government has done during the last few years.

The Congress leader said his party has been opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which was passed in Parliament.

Congress has ‘guaranteed’ the people of Assam that if voted to power in Assam, it will introduce a law, which will nullify the CAA implementation.

Speaking about Assam, CM Baghel alleged that Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP government in the state has not achieved any major development during the last five years but promoted the “syndicates” of quarry, coal mining, fish and food supply trades.

“Assam BJP uttered an election slogan like ‘Assam Ka Anand Sarbanand’ but the people of the state did not have any anand (joy) during the five years. CM Sarbananda finally brought ananda (joy) for those who are running syndicates,” said Baghel.

“The fight against the BJP is not a fight of the Congress candidate but a fight of the Congress supporters to uproot corruption and misrule triggered by the BJP,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, the Congress candidate for the Jonai Assembly seat, Dr Hema Hari Prasanna Pegu urged party workers to fight tooth and nail to win the poll battle.

Jonai will go to polls on March 27, 2021 in the first phase of the Assam Assembly election.
