Three Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) employees were kidnapped by a group of armed miscreants from a RIG site at Lakwa in upper Assam’s Sivasagar district on Wednesday morning.

Police suspect ULFA(I) hand in the incident.

The kidnapped employees have been identified as Mohini Mohan Gogoi, Junior technician, Alakesh Saikia, junior engineer and junior technician Ritul Saikia.

“The abducted employees were taken by the miscreants in an operational vehicle belonging to ONGC. Later, the vehicle was found abandoned near the Nimonagarh jungles close to the Assam-Nagaland border,” ONGC said in a press statement.

A complaint has been lodged by ONGC with the local police.

High-level officials of the Assam Police have already rushed to spot.

The local administration has been informed about the incident and ONGC is in constant touch with the higher authorities.

On December 21, 2020, ULFA (I) abducted two Quippo employees from Changlang area of Arunachal Pradesh and they were released after three months.

“We are investing the matter but till now, we cannot say anything. We suspect ULFA(I) hand in the kidnapping,” said a police official.

Our Sivasagar Correspondent adds: The registration number of the ONGC ambulance, which was used in the kidnapping, is AS-20-2186.

A case has been lodged at the Lakwa police outpost.

Sensation prevails in Sivasagar district after the incident.

Security has been tightened in the office of the ONGC in Sivasagar.
