Three persons were seriously injured after a blast took place in the air tank of an ice factory in Dhubri district on Sunday.

The factory, namely, Beauty Ice-Cream factory is located at AM Co Road in Ward No 14 of Dhubri town on Sunday.

The intensity of the blast was so high that a portion of the air tank fell about 500 metres away from the spot while the tin roof of the factory was totally damaged.

The injured have been identified as Parimal Das (35), Saddam Seikh (19) and Ruhul Amin Seikh (26).

Parimal Das and Saddam Seikh received serious injuries in their hands and other limbs in the blast and have been referred to Guwahati by the medical authorities of Dhubri Civil Hospital.

Rahul Amin Seikh, who was admitted to the Dhubri Civil Hospital, has been undergoing surgery.

The factory, owned by one Rehana Begum, was operated in the residential premises.

Joy Shankar Sharma, circle officer, Dhubri, visited the spot and sealed the factory in presence of the officer-in-charge of Bazar Town police outpost, H Ali Ahmed and other local residents.

“The district administration has sealed the factory due to illegal engagement of mechanics and labourers for repair of the ice factory machine during the nationwide lockdown period in connection with COVID19,” said the circle officer, Dhubri.

Adding more, he said the other legal courses of action have been initiated against the owner of the ice factory including an FIR against her.

The factory is located just about 100 metres away from Bazar Town police outpost.
