Assam Police have arrested an Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader at Silchar Airport for his alleged involvement in a misappropriation of rice case.
Aftabuddin Laskar, the president of Hailakandi district committee of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), was arrested by Hailakandi police at the Kumbhirgram Airport in Silchar with the help of Cachar police around 4 pm on Friday.
Laskar is the secretary of Mohanpur Samabay Samiti Limited and the prime accused in the rice misappropriation case.
Laskar, who is wanted in connection with case, had been absconding for several months.
Hailakandi superintendent of police (SP) Pabindra Kumar Nath said Laskar has been arrested acting on a tip-off.
Six accused persons in these cases were earlier arrested by police.
