The construction work for the bridge over River Brahmaputra connecting the districts of Majuli and Jorhat in Assam will begin from November.
This was announced by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday.
This announcement from the Assam chief minister came just a day after a tragic boat accident along the Majuli-Nimatighat waterway in River Brahmaputra on Wednesday.
At least one person has lost life and two more persons are still missing following the tragic boat accident.

Although, CM Sarma made the announcement of beginning the construction of the bridge by November, the design of the bridge still awaits approval.
“Once the design of the bridge gets approved by the Centre, construction of the bridge will start from November,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The Assam CM further said that the eight-kilometre long Majuli bridge will be constructed at an estimated amount of Rs 925 crore and will take at least four years to be operational.
Notably, foundation stone for the Majuli-Jorhat bridge has been laid twice thus far.

In the run-up to the 2016 Assam Assembly elections, union minister Nitin Gadkari had laid the foundation of the bridge connecting Jorhat and Lakhimpur via Majuli.
After five years, for the same bridge, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also laid foundation stone in February 2021 before the Assembly polls in Assam.
