All Assam Adivasi Students Union (AAASU) Hojai unit staged a demonstration in connection with their long term demand of Scheduled Tribe status for the people of their community here on Thursday.

The protest was organized at district headquater Sankardenagar infront of deputy commissioner’s office in Hojai at around 11 am.

The protest continued for long three hours whereby the protesters shouted many slogans such as Assam Sarkar murdabad, BJP go back, Sarbananda Sonowal hoisyar;etc.

Brij Lal Panika, president of AAASU and  Dharam Raj Gowda, secretary jointly said that,”if we are not being provided the status of Scheduled Tribe then our existence will be in danger.”

“Our population is more than 80 lakhs in Assam and we have contributed in every sector of society for the upliftment of state but we are still neglected by government in regard to our demand,” they added.

A memorandum was also forwarded to chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal through the deputy commissioner of Hojai comprising many other demands along with ST status.
