Assam actor Jatin Bora, who quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), rejoined the saffron party on Monday.

The actor left the BJP as most of the artistes across Assam joined the organisations which took to the streets in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019.

Bora expressed his decision to rejoin the saffron party during a press conference where he said he had quit the party after being misguided by a section of people.

The actor said his decision to leave BJP was a wrong one and termed the CAA as an emotional issue.

He earlier served as the chairman of the Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation.

Bora said he left the party out of fear during the CAA movement and now he has understood his mistake.

“The CAA movement caused heavy loss to Assam and it claimed the lives of 5 innocent youths,” Bora said.

The Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 seeks to grant Indian citizenship to religious minority people, barring Muslims, who fled from neighbouring countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh due to religious persecution.

Bora joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2015.

He sought apology from the State BJP leadership, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his decision to leave the party.

The actor said: “I was in the BJP party earlier, still with the party and will remain in the future.”
