At least seven shops were gutted in a fire at New market area t in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh on Thursday night.

The fire occurred at around 2 pm. The police cordoned off the entire area.

According to reports, three clothes stores and four other shops were gutted in the devastating fire.

At least three fire tenders were pressed into service to bring the fire under control.

“It was suspected that the fire caught from one of the cloth shops. Due to short circuit the fire started and engulfed the whole area,” said a local resident.

On Wednesday, a fire broke out at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Assam Medical College and Hospital’s Paediatric ward in Dibrugarh.
