Six undertrial prisoners have tested positive for Covid19 in the Jorhat Central Jail on Saturday.

A central jail source said out of the six prisoners, one was bailed out and taken to one of the Covid centres.

“Five of the others have been shifted to a separate cell and are being kept in isolation. Their condition is being monitored,” said sources.

Sources said two staff members of the central jail, including a pharmacist, and a constable of the jail, have also tested COVID19 positive.

A jail official said the six prisoners after they tested positive for the virus have not been allowed to mix with the other convicts or undertrials as they had come directly from the court where they were produced.

Swab tests of all other prisoners are being conducted, the official further said.
