Assam is in severe grip of COVID-19 pandemic.

With people returning from the religious congregation of Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin in Delhi testing positive across the State, the scenario has turned even grim.

At least 16 people among those Nizamuddin returnee has already tested positive of the virus.

They are presently kept in isolation and all those who have come in contact with these persons and those who have attended the Nizamuddin congregation have been quarantined.

In eastern Assam’s Sivasagar, 1215 people are under quarantine.

A total of 55 samples were sent to ICMR at Lahowal in Dibrugarh and all the results tested negative on Thursday evening.

Among these 55 people, eight were among those who participated in the Nizamuddin religious congregation and one patient who had fled from the isolation ward of Sivasagar Civil Hospital.

Meanwhile, the district administration has taken all possible measures to curb the spread of coronavirus.

It has also appealed to the people to strictly adhere to the guidelines set by the government and be alert at all times.
