Along with the rest of the other districts of Assam, Goalpara has also been severely affected by the latest flood.
A worrisome total of approximately 4.5 lakh people in the district have been affected in this deluge.
The flood scene is worst in the Lakhipur revenue circle of the Jaleswar constituency where 2.87 lakh people of 151 villages have suffered in this natural calamity.
About 1,13 lakh people of 66 villages of Balijana revenue circle have also faced this disaster.

A total of 18,605 people have taken shelter in the 92 relief camps set up and looked after by the district administration in the four revenue circles.
On Friday, deputy commissioner Varnali Deka herself pioneered the rescue operation in Jaleswar and monitored the relief distributions through a motorboat.
She also interacted with the camp inmates as well as the affected people.
Later, while talking to the media persons she said, “District administration in Goalpara has been continuously ensuring Rescue and Relief efforts.”
“Officers of Revenue and Disaster Management staff are continuously visiting the Flood affected areas and ensuring GR distribution, sanitation and hygiene, taking precautions relating to Covid-19,” she added.
The district administration has set up 32 relief camps and began distributing relief materials like rice, pulse, salt, mustard oil etc besides face masks and hand sanitizers to avoid coronavirus at the same time.
