A total of 20 people, including a pregnant, were injured on Wednesday as a Tata pick-up van, which was used as a passenger vehicle, turned turtle at Mukendur area in Assam’s West Karbi Anglong district.

Sources said, “The road mishap took place at Mukendur when a Tata pick-up van, overloaded with passengers, suddenly turned turtle on the road after losing control.”

The registration number of the pick-up van, which met with the accident, is AS-02 AC-6664.

“Out of the 20 injured people, who were onboard the vehicle, the condition of 11 people including a pregnant woman is serious,” sources said.

The injured were admitted to the Kheroni Model Hospital.

“Due to negligence on the part of the government, the road communication in the West Karbi Anglong district continues to remain very dismal,” a local said.

“Due to the poor road condition, the villagers from the remote areas have to use pick-up vans and trucks as passenger vehicles,” the local added.
