In a bid to check possible spread of COVID-19 in Assam’s Dhubri, the district Health department has randomly collected the swab samples of total 158 individuals from the declared containment zones of Bilasipara and Chapar areas on Sunday.
This is apart from those linked with Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaj and Guwahati’s Athgaon Masjid religious congregations.
Joint director of Health Services, Dhubri S M Emdad Ullah said, “We have collected the random samples from the inhabitants of contentment zones only as of now at the Dhubri Civil Hospital and Bilasipara Sub-Divisional Health Centre.”

“We have requested the people from these areas and they came out voluntarily to these centers where our lab technicians have collected the samples,” said Emdad Ullah.
All these random samples collected on Sunday till late evening will also go for checking separately from along with those usual samples collected on daily that go for COVID-19 testing at Fakruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College (FAAMC) at Barpeta.
Meanwhile, in another development, three patients, out of total five COVID -19 positive patients of Dhubri district, who were under treatment at Mahendra Mohan Choudhary Hospital (MMCH) in Guwahti was discharged on Sunday.
And all three are returning to Dhubri town, where they will be kept under observation for next 14 days, said health officials.
In Dhubri district till April 26, a total of 523 samples for COVID-19 have been collected and out of that, 283 results found were negative while 235 results are still awaited.
Dhubri is one of the five hotspot districts in Assam with cluster zones.
The other four districts are Golaghat, Marigaon, Nalbari and Goalpara.
Among the total of 158 samples collected randomly, 45 are from Chapor, 63 from Bilasipara SDCH and another 50 were collected from Dhubri Civil Hospital.
All the samples are already on the way to Barpeta Medical College for testing, informed senior medical and health officer, Dhubri.
