GUWAHATI: The Kamrup district administration in Assam honoured 105-year-old Ramati Baishya for her exemplary dedication to encouraging voter participation.
Led by Kamrup district commissioner and district election officer Keerthi Jalli, a team visited Ramati Baishya at her residence in Dalibari village in Kamrup district of Assam on April 14, coinciding with the Rongali Bihu festivities and Assamese New Year.
Expressing her enthusiasm for casting her vote, Baishya’s spirit resonated with the visiting officials.
District commissioner Jalli commended Baishya’s commitment, stating, “If someone like her can go and vote, our young voters can too.”
As a token of appreciation, Baishya received a gift hamper containing Bihu delicacies and a Gamosa (scarf) imprinted with SVEEP, representing the systematic voters’ education and electoral program.
In a gesture of reverence towards elderly voters, similar felicitation programs were organized across the Hajo-Sualkuchi, Boko-Chhaygaon, Palashbari, and Chamaria assembly constituencies within the Kamrup election district.
For instance, district development commissioner Susanta Kumar Dutta honoured Bhoge Bala Das, an elderly resident of the Palashbari assembly segment in Assam.
Kamrup district in Assam, encompassing the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, initiated these programs to draw inspiration from the life experiences of senior citizens and advocate for a 100% voter turnout.
