The Chirang district administration has cancelled all the permissions issued for organizing Bihu, Bwisagu and Bishwa functions, including mela in view of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in Assam..

The Chirang additional district magistrate issued the order on April 23.

The district administration also asked the public to strictly follow Covid-19 protocols.

The order also stated that any person violating this order would be liable to be penalized as per provisions under section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and legal action under section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and other legal provisions as applicable.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 situation is also grim in Assam with 2,384 people testing positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Among them 883 new cases are from Kamrup (Metro) district.

The disease claimed the lives of 12 people on Friday, taking the total death toll to 1,172.

There are currently 12,595 active cases in the state.
