The Dhemaji district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Wednesday street meetings in various parts of Dhemaji district demanding Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Assam and withdrawal of the CAA.

The Dhemaji district unit of the AJYCP organized the street meetings as per the decision of the organisation’s central committee to mobilize the public in support of their demands.

The AJYCP anchalik committee members staged mass sit-in demonstration at roadsides at Dhemaji, Gogamukh, Bordoloni, Sissiborgaon, Simenchapori and Jonai areas under the district.

AJYCP, an influential students and youth organization in Assam, has been voicing against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and demanding introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

The organization is planning to take the anti-CAA movement to the national capital.

AJYCP, which is already engaged in a legal battle in the Supreme Court for implementation of the ILP system in Assam, is all set to approach different political parties at the national level over the two issues.

According to AJYCP central leaders, both the issues require intervention from the central government.

“We are reviving anti-CAA movement in the state and all set to launch activities in New Delhi so that the Centre pay heed to our voice,” said Gyan Sarma, president of AJYCP, Dhemaji district unit.

“Introduction of ILP in Assam is a demand of our organization since its formation. It is necessary to protect the identity of the indigenous Assamese communities from the adverse impact of CAA and internal migration from other states of the country,” he added.
