The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) on Wednesday organized a candlelight march at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

They staged strong protest demanding stringent punishment to the culprits involved in the killing of 73-year-old Dr Deben Dutta at Teaok tea estate in Jorhat.

“We demand immediate arrest and stringent punishment to those involved in the killing of Dr Deben Dutta,” said Amarinder Singh Malhi, President RDA AIMS to Northeast Now.

He said that the incident has once again shown the vulnerability concerning doctors’ life.

RDA AIIMS has also sent a letter to union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan demanding strong punishment to the culprits.

Dr Dutta was beaten to death allegedly by tea garden workers at Teok tea estate leading to his death.

“We want that government should bring the central protection law in this regard at the earliest,” said Malhi.

Doctors across India have been demanding for the implementation of the central protection law against any kind of violent incident.

The Union Health Ministry had recently formed an inter-ministerial committee to frame modalities for the central protection law.

On Tuesday, the ministry has again issued a notification seeking suggestions for the law in next 30 days.
