With the demise of 8 more positive patients due to COVID19 infections in Assam, the death toll in the state increased to 140 on Saturday.

Confirming the news, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in a tweet said the COVID19 victims are from Nalbari, Tinsukia, Morigaon, Kokrajhar, Nagaon, and Dibrugarh.

The victims have been identified as Mahan Talukdar (45) and Azizur Rahman (52) from Nalbari; Narayan C Deka (54) and Dulu Paul (50) from Tinsukia; Turab Ali (48) from Morigaon; Sufala Gogoi (46) from Kokrajhar; Khanindra Nath (55) from Nagaon and Prakash Jain (60) from Dibrugarh district.

Assam so far has registered 55,496 COVID19 positive cases.

With the death of 8 more COVID19 patients, the state currently has 16,544 active cases while 3 cases were migrated from the state.

With 48,900 patients discharged in the last 24 hours, India’s total recoveries from COVID-19 has reached 14,27,005.

The recovery rate, on a steady upward rise, stands at 68.32%.

The active cases, which are the actual caseload for India, stand at 6,19,088 on Saturday.

The deadly disease has claimed the lives of 43,518 people in India so far.
