The Assam government has deported six Bangladeshi nationals to the neighboring country, who had entered India illegally through the porous international border.

Police officials said the six people were handed over to the Bangladeshi authorities on Sunday at the Sutarkandi international border in south Assam’s Karimganj district.

The Bangladeshi nationals arrested by police in different parts of the state after they entered India without valid documents.

They were handed over to Bangladesh authorities through legal procedures.

The Bangladeshi nationals, who were lodged at Goalpara and Kokrajhar detention camps for the past two years, hailed from the Cox Bazar area of the neighbouring country.

The Assam government has deported 49 Bangladeshi nationals to Bangladesh so far, this year.

Earlier on November 2, the Assam government had deported 42 infiltrators to Bangladesh.
