The Assam government has announced three days of state mourning as a mark of tribute to former chief minister Bhumigdhar Barman.
Barman breathed his last at the Dispur Hospital in Guwahati at 6:20 pm
He was undergoing treatment for old age ailments and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Dispur Hospital.
Barman’s last rites will be performed at his native village Belsor in Nalbari with full state honours.
Several political leaders on Monday paid their last tributes to former chief minister Bhumidhar Barman at the Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati.

Barman took charge as Assam’s chief Minister of Assam from 22 April to 14 May 1996 after the death of former chief minister Hiteswar Saikia.
He had also been the acting chief minister briefly in 2010 when the then Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi had gone for a by-pass surgery to the US.
As a cabinet minister, he also held important portfolios like health and revenue.
The veteran Congress leader’s mortal remains were taken from the hospital to his residence on Sunday at Rukmininagar in the city, where many people had gathered to pay their tributes.
His body was taken to the Rajiv Bhawan in the morning on Monday, from several political leaders paid their last tributes.
He was also taken to the Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner’s office among other places.
Respecting his last wishes, Barman’s family will take his body to his native village Belsor in Assam’s Nalbari district later in the day.
