A youth, identified as Bhaijaan Ali, was arrested by Jorhat police for duping a person of Rs 27000 and fleeing with the man’s bag.

The man, who was duped, had withdrawn money from the State Bank of India (SBI) Main branch at AT Road in Jorhat town, when he was befriended by Ali, who allegedly gave him some juice to drink which was laced with drugs near the bank .

When the man, who works as a cook for the police, felt weak and dizzy and saw Ali picking up his bag and fleeing on a motorcycle, he somehow managed to raise the alarm.

The youth was chased to Geetarthi point at KB Road and caught by the bystanders before being handed over to the police.

Police recovered the whole amount of money from the possession of the youth.

A police source said that Ali hailed from Saulkhowa in Dibrugarh district.

The police cook has been sent for a medical check-up to ascertain what he was drugged with.
