In sync with rest of the world, International Women’s Day was celebrated by SOS Children’s Village Hojai at Dakhin Kumorakata in Hojai district of Assam on Friday with day-long activities.
The programme was celebrated at its community place, Debosthan, under Community Activities of Family Strengthening Programme of SOS CV Hojai.
The event attracted a huge crowd that included the caregivers, their family members, children and other members of the community from both the clusters of Uttar and Dakhin Kumorakata.
The event was initiated by a skill training programme for the caregivers on ‘Judicial procedures, Acts and Laws related to Women’ by advocate Gitesh Aryya from Nagaon.
This programme was intended to aware the caregivers about various judicial and constitutional laws and rights. They were also taught about procedures such as FIR, roles and duties of Police, etc.
This was followed by a cultural programme in which Dr Samim Safiqa Begum, principal of Maryam Ajmal Women’s College of Science and Technology, Hojai graced the occasion as the chief guest and Sahina Mumtaz, principal of Maryam Ajmal Women’s College of Arts as guest of honour.
The dais was also shared by the village director of SOS Children’s Village Paresh Badyakar, assistant director of SOS Village Hojai, Chitta Ranjan Mohanty, advocate Gitesh Aryya, along with gaon burha of Dakhin Kumorakata, Dilip Hasam.
The chief guest and other dignitaries presented their valuable thoughts during the programme that included various points such as women empowerment, role of mothers and women in the society as well as overall development of children, etc.
The speakers also spoke on the role and strength of self help groups with respect to child development and child care as well as betterment of the society.
A felicitation programme was also organized by the FSP team for four successful caregivers from Telibasti and Fakirabasti, who performed well during 2018 with respect to their increase in income, better management of business, performance of their children in school and overall family development.
Two former animators from Fakirabasti and Telibasti locations namely Jugni Panika and Rupa Sahu were also felicitated.
It was followed by a cultural programme in which caregivers, children from the community and children from SOS CV Hojai performed dance and presented songs which has added value to the programme.
Around 200 people from both the clusters of Uttar and Dakhin Kumorakata attended the programme, who were quite happy and enthusiastic about the event. The daylong event ended successfully followed by mild refreshment for the caregivers and all other participants.
All the participants felt motivated and encouraged by the programme which was quite influential for them with respect to their child care, understanding on roles of women and its relation to holistic development of the society.
