The pathetic condition of the Tangla-Nasanchali-Dimakuchi road in Udalguri has drawn strong resentment among the residents and locals.

The dilapidated condition of the road has also exposed the claim of development by the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and State Government.

The road which falls under Udalguri LAC is a lifeline for the people of Dhupguri and neighbouring villages of the area.

Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) supremo Hagrama Mahillary’s dream of model BTC seems to be a mere illusion when it comes to the reality of the greasy and muddy road which worsens during monsoon season.

Though the road distance is only 15 km from Kukurakata near Tangla to Dimakuchi, it is bizarre that people’s voice to repair the same has not reached the Government’s ears for the past decade.

When this correspondent visited the place on Tuesday, the school students, traders and patients were seen having hard time wading through the water-filled road.

For the worst condition of the Tangla-Nasanchali-Dimakuchi Road, which diverts from Tangla-Bhergaon Road, the commuters of the area curse the Government, which boasts of bringing development in terms of road communication.

Though a part of the road was repaired months back, the work of the large part of the road remains unattended. The condition of the surface communication link is presently so pathetic that the people hardly can walk on it, not to speak about vehicular traffic as the road has lost all its sheen.

The poor road condition has also been posing a big hurdle to the school students. Besides, the farmers also find it tough to send their produces to the nearby markets. It also poses threat to the patients as ambulances can’t reach them in need of hour.

The people of the area have been demanding the State Government and the BTC authorities since long for early repair of the road, though their collective pleas have not been taken seriously by the authorities concerned over the past 12 years.

“The MLA, MP, Executive Members of BTC and the Deputy Commissioner, none of them have visited this village. The representatives have never turned up after they were elected,” said Amrit Deka, a villager.

“We face lots of hardships in peddling to schools specially in rainy days and we have to wade through knee deep water,” said Jibel Toppo and Bicky Gaur, a fifth standard and fourth standard students of Nachansali LP School respectively.

The villagers have demanded that necessary measures be taken by the State Government and the BTC at the earliest.
