A vehicle on Thursday was torched as it went in flames near the office of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) at Na Ali in Jorhat.

The torched vehicle is a Maruti car.

Fortunately, there were no casualties as both the driver of the vehicle and his wife safely de-boarded it.

Immediately after the incident, fire brigade in Jorhat was called up and the firefighters doused the fire but till then the vehicle was totally destroyed.

The vehicle had been bought by a bus driver Diganta  Pathak from one Purnananda  Saikia a few days ago.

Diganta Pathak’s father had driven the car down to the APDCL office with his wife to pay the electricity bill.

According information, on getting down from the car Diganta Pathak’s father spotted smoke emanating from somewhere under the car.

He bought a bottle of water and poured it to cool the car when there was a burst of flames.

Firefighters from the nearby fire brigade office rushed to the spot and the fire was doused but only the skeleton of the car remained.

It is suspected that short circuit may be the cause of the fire.
