A family strengthening programme of SOS Children’s Village in Hojai district of Assam was celebrated as ‘Universal Children’s Day’ on Tuesday at its newly undertaken location at Kumorakata village in Hojai.

The event began at 1 pm at Pandit Jeevan Ram Barman MV School in Kumorakata that attracted around 500 participants including children from the MV School, Dakhin Kumorakata tribal LP School, Theplaguri Tribal LP School as well as caregivers and some youths from both north and south Kumorakata.

Sahina Khanam, advocate, Guwahati High Court and member of CWC Nagaon graced the occasion as the chief guest.

On this occasion, a team of children from Dakhin Kumorakata led by Dimashree Kemprai performed one beautiful skit based on the theme ‘Child Labour and School Dropout’.

Another team of children from SOS Children’s Village, Hojai led by Dasharath Borah performed one drama based on the theme of girls’ education.

Speaking on this occasion, Sahina Khanam shared her valuable thoughts on the role of caregivers and guardians in identifying the issues that children face.

She said, “The parents should be cautious about every moments of the day of their children, as various incidents happen due to the negligence of the parents.”

Shishu Panchayat president from Fakirabasti Purnima Panika also shared her thoughts on child rights and role of children in betterment of the society.

The audience present appreciated both the plays. Moreover, various other children performed poem recitation, singing and dances which made the event a beautiful and attractive one.

On this occasion, headmasters of the schools and the gaonburha of Dakhin Kumorakata were also present. All of them shared their valuable thoughts with the children.
