Apurba Kakoti, manager-cum-caretaker of a stone quarry at Jagun in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district was abducted by a few unidentified gunmen on Monday evening.

Jagun is 76 km from Tinsukia town.

The stone crushing unit belongs to one local named Bijay Bora.

According to police, the youth was abducted by unidentified gunmen around 6 pm from Ten Mile area under Jagun Police Station.

It has been suspected that the youth has been abducted by United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) for ransom.

In the past one year, the ULFA(I) has abducted many businessmen from the area for ransom.

However, it is yet to be ascertained who has abducted the youth.

Tinsukia district has turned into a hot bed for ULFA(I) as the militants can easily sneak into the territory from Myanmar.

In the last two years, many such cases of abduction have happened in the Jagun area of Tinsukia.

A joint combing operation has been launched in Assam-Arunachal border in search of the youth.

According to reports, the youth is a resident of Digboi.

Police have already started investigation into the case.
