A 14-year-old girl, who went missing from her residence in Dimakuchi along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri district was rescued within 24 hours from Tezpur in Sonitpur district.
According to reports, a youth identified as 21-year-old Ajesh Kumar, a resident of Orangajuli Tea Estate in Udalguri eloped with the minor girl on pretext of marrying her following which the family of the minor informed activists of the All Assam Gorkha Student’s Union (AAGSU) and the All Adivasi Students Union of Assam (AASAA).
In the meantime, the family members of the minor girl also lodged a missing report with Dimakuchi Police.
The police in co-ordination with the students’ body members based on inputs apprehended the youth and rescued the minor girl from Lokhra area of Tezpur.
Based on an FIR lodged by the minor girl’s family members on Friday, Dimakuchi police arrested the youth vide Dimakuchi PS case no.110/18 under the Indian Penal Code 366.
The police also produced the youth before the court which forwarded him to the judicial custody.

Earlier, in a similar case, a 15-year-old minor girl, a student of BR Ambedkar Hindi High School, Tangla in Udalguri, who had been missing since June 21, was rescued by Tangla Police from Alipurduar of West Bengal.

A team of police led by Police Sub-Inspector, Manik Bormudoi, rescued the girl and apprehended a youth, identified as 24-year-old Rakesh Das in this connection.

The girl’s family members had lodged a police complaint against the youth vide Tangla PS case no. 101/18 under section 366 of the Indian Penal code (IPC) and the police immediately sprang into action.
