A couple died on the spot in a tragic road accident at Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district of eastern Assam in the wee hours of Monday.
The couple has been identified as Pranjal Deep Chetia and his wife Himadri Baruah hailing from Gormur under Simaluguri police station of Sivasagar district.
According to information received, the husband-wife duo was returning home from the on-going Hornbill Festival in Nagaland in their Maruti Celerio vehicle bearing registration number AS-04-6558 when the accident took place.
At around 1:30 am, their vehicle rammed into a truck bearing registration number UP-21-GN-2081 parked on the side of the road and both the occupants of the vehicle died on the spot.
Later, police from the Guarisagar police station arrived at the scene of the accident and sent the bodies for post mortem to Sivasagar Civil Hospital.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom has descended in the entire area over the tragic death of the young couple.
