A 20-year-old boy from Panitola Nagaon in Tinsukia district, who went missing recently, has reportedly joined the anti-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I).

The boy, who has been identified as Homenjyoti Baruah, was reportedly a trainee under SAI, Tinsukia.

According to information, Homenjyoti Baruah has remained missing since he went for the training centre at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) at Tinsukia.

According to sources, in 2017, he made an attempt to contact with a militant organisation and tried to join that outfit but somehow his attempt was foiled.

It has been suspected that he might have gone away and joined the ULFA(I) this time.

Sources claimed that many youths from upper Assam have joined the outfit.

Recently, many youths from Upper Assam also had shown interest to join militant outfit through the social media platforms.

“Many days have passed since she went missing. He went missing while going to the SAI training centre. A missing report was lodged by his parents but it is not clear that he has joined any militant outfit or not,” a police source said.

A missing complaint was lodged with the police on November 4, 2018.

United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has targetted youths of Upper Assam and has reportedly started recruitment drive to bring the youths in their organisation.

Despite repeated attempts by Northeast Now, Tinsukia SP Mudhajyoti Mahanta could not be contacted for his comments.

Last month, a video clip of an All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) leader – Pankaj Protim Dutta  – dressed in army fatigues and brandishing an assault rifle, went viral in Assam where he confirmed about his joining the outlawed outfit, ULFA(I).

Pankaj Protim Dutta had gone missing since early September, police said, adding that there was also a missing person complaint in his name.

Datta earlier served as the vice president of the Dergaon unit of AASU in Golaghat district.
