Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of lying to people of the country, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that this year’s election is between the ‘lies’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the truth of the Congress.

“One side you have lies of the Prime Minister who said that Rs. 15 lakh would be deposited in every citizen’s account and on the other side is the truth of Congress that we promise to give Rs. 72,000 every year to 20 per cent of the country’s population who are extremely poor,” said Rahul Gandhi while addressing an election rally at Bokakhar under Kaliabor Lok Sabha constituency in Assam.

He said that while Naremdra Modi failed to deposit Rs. 15 lakh to everyone’s account he had given Rs. 30,000 crore to his friend Anil Ambani.

“The Prime Minister has started asking questions from where this money will come? I want to tell him that we are going to take out the Rs. 30,000 crore, he had given to Anil Ambani from the Indian Air Force and distribute among the poor people as Rs. 72,000 per annum,” said the Congress president.

He said that the Congress will ensure that Citizenship (Amendment) Bill is never passed.

“The bill is an assault to the language, culture and tradition of Northeast India. BJP president Amit Shah said that BJP would ensure that bill is passed, however, we will not allow the bill to be passed in Parliament.  Several people from Northeast India met me and I assured them I would oppose the bill and we did it in Rajya Sabha,” he said.

“The Nasik and RSS is attacking the history, culture and language of the people of the region. It must be stopped by defeating the BJP and voting for the Congress in the Lok Sabha polls,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi said Modiji had assured of creating 2 crore employment opportunities, but the country is currently witnessing highest unemployment rate of the last 45 years.

The Congress leader also slammed the BJP government on GST and said if the Congress comes to power after the polls, they would replace the existing ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’ with genuine GST, which will help small and medium size businessmen across the country.

At Bokakhat, Rahul Gandhi campaigned for party candidate and sitting MP Gaurav Gogoi.
