The Tangla police busted a gang of bike lifters and arrested seven of its members from various places of Tangla town in Udalguri district.
They recovered two stolen motorcycles from their possession on Thursday.
Recently, the bike-lifters have been active in Udalguri district. There have been several cases of bike theft and car theft in various parts of district including in places like Dimakuchi, Bhergaon, Khoirabari, Harisinga, Tangla, Mazbat and Rowta.
The apprehended have been identified as Nomal Boro(19),Jasmin Daimari(19),Rijon Daimari(19),Jibit Daimari(25),Ananta Boro(19),Biplob Boro(19) and Dibyajyoti Sahariah(19).
All the youths excluding Jibit Daimari are students of various junior colleges of Tangla.
The police team led by Tangla OC, Durga Kingkar Sarma also recovered two stolen motorcycles from Ananta Boro and Jibit Daimari besides recovering materials used to steal bikes from the rented shed of Jasmin Daimari.
The Tangla police produced the youths in court which forwarded them to judicial custody on Friday.
The involvement of the junior college students in bike theft incidents has raised many eyebrows.
