Eminent singer Shyamsundar Dutta lost his life while singing on stage during the occasion of the death anniversary of Parvati Prasad Barua at Little Flower School in Nalbari district of Assam on Friday.

The school was holding a function in memory of the great icon of Assamese culture. The function was held by Nalbari Sahitya Sabha in cooperation with Assam Sahitya Sabha branch of Lakhimi.

Dutta who was invited as a chief performer of the occasion immediately became sick after singing Parvati Prasad Barua’s famous songs ‘Gorokhiya Hera Gorokhiya’ and ‘Pujo Aha Aai Matri’.

The organizers of the function rushed Dutta to Sarathi Hospital of Nalbari where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

Dutta died at the age of 78 years. He left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.

Many prominent organizations like the Nalbari Sahitya Sabha, Nalbari Students Union lamented over the unfortunate death of the singer.

Dutta who has been associated with various educational institutions of Nalbari has brought laurels to the district with many awards and excellent performances in the state and national levels.

He was mostly famous for enthralling the music lovers of the state with the evergreen numbers of singers Bhupen Hazarika and Parvati Prasad Barua.
