The Assam Rifles apprehended two cadres of Myanmar-based Yung Aung-led faction of NSCN (Khaplang) along with arms, explosives and ammunition from Piphema and Burma camp in Dimapur district on June 7 and 8 respectively.

An Assam Rifles press release issued on Monday stated that the two NSCN(K) cadres were nabbed along with two pistols, hand grenades, detonators, explosives, ammunition, extortion slips and other incriminating documents.

The duo has been identified as 24-year-old Ghileto Zhimo of VK Town under Zunheboto district and 32-year-old self-styled captain Hekzhav Awomi Kanbo of Homeland village in Dimapur district.

The Assam Rifles said both were involved in a series of extortion activities and weapon smuggling in Dimapur and Kohima districts.

They have been handed over to Medziphema police for further investigation.

The release said the apprehension of the two cadres has dealt a big blow to the faction’s extortion network.
