Meghalaya karateka Wandahunshisha Mawblei and Assam Rifles’ Rfwn Vanshika Tanwar won gold at the 5th South Asian Karate Championship in Dhaka.
Wandahunshisha Mawblei has brought laurels to Meghalaya and the country by winning gold medal in the Girls Cadet Individual Kumite in 54 kg.
She defeated her opponent from Sri Lanka at the 5th South Asian Karate Championship 2019.
Wandahunshisha has been congratulated by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma for her achievement.
Sharing a picture of Wandahunshisha along with the assistant coach, Donboklang Lyngdoh, Conrad tweeted: “Congratulations to Wandahunshisha Mawblei for securing Gold at the 5th South Asian Karate Championship.”

Meanwhile, informing about Rfwn Vanshika Tanwar winning gold at the championship, the Assam Rifles on its Twitter handle said: “Rfwn Vanshika Tanwar of Assam Rifles won Gold Medal at 5th South Asian Karate Championship held at Dhaka wherein sportspersons from Six South East Asian Nations participated.”

Ishita Kashyap from Assam won silver medal in the Cadet (14-15years) Female Individual Kata event in championship on Friday.
Ishita, the gold medalist of KAI Junior National, also represented India in Asian Junior Karate, 2019 in Malaysia in April and in 11th World Cadet Junior and U-21 Karate at Santiago, Chile in October.
United Karate-Do Association, Assam (UKAA) has congratulated Ishita for her achievement.
The three-day karate championship concluded on Saturday.
Around 245 players from five countries – India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Bangladesh – participated in 60 events across different categories – cadet, junior, U-21 and senior – in the tournament.
