Guwahati: An NSCN (IM) cadre was nabbed along with a cache of arms by the security forces from Inthem Ghat area of Pengeri in Assam’s Tinsukia district.
Acting on a tip-off, the Indian Army along with the Assam police launched a joint search operation early on Thursday (September 12, 2024) morning and apprehended the militant, Kohima-based Defence PRO, Lt Col Amit Shukla, said.
Two pistols with magazines, three grenades and several live rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession, he added.
He intended to carry out subversive activities in the upper Assam region. The militant along with the seized items were later handed over to the Assam police for further investigation, he said.
This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the security forces to ensure peace and stability in the region, he added.

Lt Col Shukla further said that the Indian Army and police continue to be instrumental in countering insurgent threats and maintaining public security.
Assam’s Tinsukia district shares borders with Arunachal Pradesh. The neighbouring state shares international borders with Myanmar.
These bordering areas of Arunachal Pradesh, especially Changlang district, are believed to be strongholds of various militant organisations, including the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) and various factions of the NSCN.
These insurgent groups are reportedly based in Myanmar. Its cadres often sneak into India through the porous borders and return to their base after striking in the Indian soil.
