Assam Public Works (APW), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and the main petitioner in the case regarding National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam in the Supreme Court, has sought a total
reverification of those who have found their names in the final draft of the NRC in 22 of the 33 districts of Assam.

A report published in the The Indian Express stated that the organisation, in its latest affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, also asked for data regarding the demographic classification of the 40 lakh people excluded from the NRC final draft published on July 30 last to be made available.

In its order on October 23 last, the apex court had said that NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela’s report on the reasons for suggesting exclusion of five documents from the original 15 List A documents from the ongoing claims round should be made available to all the 10 stakeholders, including the Centre, Government of Assam and APW.

Earlier, in the month of September, the APW had demanded fresh verification of the complete NRC draft by third party to be engaged by the Supreme Court of India. APW president Abhijit Sarma had told media persons, “Claims and objections in one district should be headed by officials from another district or there should be at least mix-match officials. Officials of one district shouldn’t be allowed to decide claims and objections relating to the said district.”

Sarma had further stated, “Necessary orders should be issued for reverification of inclusion of names of illegal migrants through family tree or any other ways in draft NRC in Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Chirang, South Salmara, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Darrang, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Golaghat, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts.”
