A doctor of a nursing home in North Lakhimpur was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly performing wrong surgery on a patient and using expired medicine.

Police arrested Dr Titu Medak of Mid-Town Hospital, who is also proprietor of the hospital, here on charges of violation of medical ethics.

A patient admitted to the nursing home for surgery of gallbladder complained of wrong operation and administering of an injection with expiry date.

On the basis of the complaint of the patient, North Lakhimpur police arrested the doctor along with a pharmacist this evening.

Police have seized the medicines with expiry date from the nursing home.

It may be mentioned that rampant irregularities and unethical practices have been complained by patients in all private nursing homes in North Lakhimpur.

There has been complains of poor services to patients by non-specialist doctors to patients suffering from various diseases, use of expired medicines and drugs and mismanagement in these hospitals.

Locals alleged that these private hospitals have exploited the nurses and paramedic staff by providing meager salaries.

Lack of proper waste management systems is also a bigger issue concerning the private health care facilities in North Lakhimpur, said locals.
