Based on specific information regarding movement of People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK) extremists in Borlangfer area in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, a joint team comprising Army and police launched an operation.

In the operation, a cadre of PDCK identified as Welson Terang alias Mongwe Terang of Bokaram Tokbi village under Dolamara police station was apprehended.

A .22 pistol along with magazine and six live rounds of ammunition was recovered from his possession. Terang was once a hardcore member of Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) and involved in extortion and kidnapping etc.

He was arrested in 2013 and 2015 in connection with Borpathar police station case No 109/13 U/S 120(B)/121/121(A)/122/147/148/149/427/302/436/326 IPC.R/W SEC. 27(2) Arms Act and Borpathar police station Case No. 21/15 U/S120(B)/121/121(A)/122/123/307/387 R/W SEC 25(1-A)/27 Arms Act respectively.

After he came out of jail, he joined PDCK and he along with self styled C-in-C of PDCK David Mukrang actively engaged in extortion of money and recruit youths for the PDCK.

On July 21, 2018, Welson Terang along with his associates mounted attack on a police party at Bokaram Tokbi village under Dolamara police station.

In the encounter, the police retaliated and the extremists fled taking the advantage of darkness. After the encounter one HK 33 Rifle, 70 rounds of ammunition, two magazines of the rifle and other incriminating items were recovered from the site.
