Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary with 30 Master Trainers at ASDM workshop in Guwahati on Friday.

Assam Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has called upon NRL, Guwahati Refinery and Bongaigaon Refinery to open up skill development centres in the state ITIs.

Speaking at a workshop here on skill development Patowary said this on Friday.

With a mission to provide gainful employment to the youth of Assam, Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) organised a workshop with industry and training partners at Assam Administrative Staff College here.

The workshop focussed on sectors like beauty and wellness, tourism and hospitality and retail.

ASDM, which has tied up with Institute of Technical Education (ITE), Singapore, roped in two faculty members from the institute who imparted training to 30 Master Trainers in Guwahati for a period of four weeks in areas like housekeeping, food and beverages, beauty and wellness and retail services.

These Master Trainers will shortly be sent to Singapore to acquire advancing hands-on training in these sectors.

Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary said, “Just like Charles Darwin’s evolutionary theory of survival of the fittest, only skill can make a person sustain in current times, and not just formal education.”

The minister added that Assam government has signed an MoU with Singapore as it is an exemplary leader of skill development in the world.

“We are connected with the South-East Asian nations historically and culturally. By dint of this tie-up, both Assam and Singapore have come closer to each other,” said Minister Patowary.

He further mentioned that direct flight services from Guwahati to Singapore will soon begin at a fixed fair under Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS).

“We will shortly incorporate Japanese and other South East Asian languages as a discipline in our mission to train 1.5 lakh youths in multiple sectors,” he said.

He said that the department will shortly launch ‘Swabalamban’ – a scheme to skill the surrendered extremists, ‘Karagar to Karigar’ – a scheme to skill the prisoners so that they can sustain themselves when free and an app, ‘DAKSHA’.

Lim Boon Tiong, Director, ITE, Singapore termed this initiative as not just a journey but a celebration wherein the two nations will emerge as more resurgent and synergised powers.

Commissioner and Secretary of the department, Ashutosh Agnihotri underlined the fact that India has the strong youth pool under the age of 35 and thus the government is emphasising this demographic dividend to make India the skill capital of the world.

Mission Director of ASDM, AP Tiwari offered vote thanks and said that further such workshops would be held to keep the momentum on.
