A team of police and district administration officials led by Sissiborgaon circle officer seized about 380 litres of petrol and 568 litres of diesel.

Dhemaji administration on Thursday unearthed a huge quantity of fuel illegally stored and sold as an alternative fuel for vehicles at Sissiborgaon area here.

In a raid against illegal storage and selling of petrol, disel and SK oil in Dhemaji district, a team of police and district administration officials led by Sissiborgaon circle officer Sunbar Chutiya seized about 380 litres of petrol and 568 litres of diesel from Dimou Charali under Silapathar Police station.

The fuels were seized from the house of two persons, which were said to be purchased from a depot in Arunachal Pradesh by the traders for retail sale.

Meanwhile, the officials have reported their findings of the checking drive to Dhemaji deputy Commissioner for follow up action.

However, no person has been booked so far in this regard.

The officials earlier also conducted joint operation at Sissiborgaon area in the district in April this year and seized illegally stored 598 litres of petrol and 885 litres of diesel.

Mushrooming of the illegal diesel and petrol outlets in the district are responsible for early defect of the motor engines as the traders adulterated the fuel to earn more benefit.

Moreover, huge quantity SK oil supplied under public distribution system (PDS) in the district is being sold to the Arunachal based oil depots to mix with the oil fuels.
