Kokrajhar police on Thursday seized a truck transporting 18 cattle illegally at Karigaon National Highway 31(C) in Kokrajhar district of Assam.

Binanda Basumatary, the officer in-charge of Kokrajhar sadar police station said that the truck bearing registration No AS-01-GC-2244, transporting 18 cattles illegally was intercepted at National Highway 31(C) in Karigaon area of Kokrajhar and later seized the truck along with the cattle.

The cattle loaded truck was on way from Dinajpur in West Bengal to South Salmara in Dhubri bordering Bangladesh.

He said that five people were arrested in this connection of illegal cattle smuggling business. The arrested persons have been identified as Anusu Jaman Sardar, aged around 42 years old of South Salmara in Mankachar of Assam; Kurshed Alom, aged around 24 years of Panjipara in West Bengal; Namuddin Ahmed (23) of Siphajhar in Darrang district of Assam); Tahed Alom, aged around 45 years of Panjipara in West Bengal and Asodu Jaman, aged around 38 years of Singimari in Kochbehar of West Bengal

Basumatary also said that a Maruti WagonR bearing registration number of West Bengal was also seized which was using by the smugglers.

He also said that more investigation is on.
