Guwahati: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has suspended its Guwahati zone regional officer and joint secretary Lakhan Lal Meena.
In an order issued by Nidhi Chibber, Chairperson, CBSE on Monday (March 18) stated that it has been directed that Lakhan Lal Meena, Joint Secretary (Adhoc) and Regional Officer, CBSE, Guwahati will be placed under suspension with immediate effect.
The CBSE notification issued read, “Whereas a disciplinary proceeding against L.L. Meena, Joint Secretary (Adhoc) and Regional Officer, CBSE, Regional Office, Guwahati is being contemplated.”
“Now therefore, the undersigned, in exercise of powers conferred by Rule 9.1 of Chapter 9 of CBSE Service Rules, 1985, hereby places the said Shri L.L. Meena under suspension with immediate effect.”
“It is further ordered that during the period that this order shall remain in force, the headquarters of Shri L.L. Meena shall be CBSE, Headquarters, Delhi and the said Shri L.L. Meena shall not leave the headquarters without obtaining the previous permission of the Competent Authority.”
The CBSE notification doesn’t clearly mention why a ‘disciplinary proceeding’ was initiated against Meena.
It may be mentioned that there is already a case of dowry harassment and assault going on against Meena in Allahabad High Court filed by Prayagraj Police.
According to the case, an FIR was registered against the petitioner Meena in the year 2013 at Dhumanganj police station, Allahabad under sections 376, 412, 495, 313, 317, 498-A, 307, 323, 406 IPC and 3/4 DP Act. The police filed the charge sheet after the investigation.
The High Court had given interim relief to Meena in this case and had stayed the proceedings in the criminal case.
However, due to the unavailability of updated information about the interim order to the ACJM court, ACJM Allahabad issued a non-bailable warrant against the petitioner and summoned him on February 2, 2024.
The High Court has sent the case to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court reserved its decision after hearing the question of the High Court Full Bench. A decision is yet to be taken on this.
