Assam in collaboration with ITE Education Services (ITEES), Singapore has come up with North East Skill Centre (NESC) in Guwahati.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday inaugurated the Centre which will operate under the aegis of Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM).

The NESC aims to address the need for an International Standard, quality skill training facility in Assam. The NESC will train 400 candidates annually in – Food & Beverage Service, Housekeeping, Retail Service and Beauty & Wellness.

The chief minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Institute of Technical Education (ITEES), Singapore, expressed his desire to establish similar technical education facilities in India which will impart training of international standard.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the ITEES, Singapore and Government of Assam in October, 2016 to formalize the setting up of NESC in Guwahati.

An official statement issued by the Assam government on Thursday said that the courses under which training will be provided were selected after a thorough a ‘Need Based Analysis’ conducted by ITEES, Singapore across Assam, to identify the high growth potential sectors.

“The NESC has already collaborated with leading industries in the four job roles for providing employment opportunities for candidates post training.

These collaborations will be further leveraged to arrange for guest lectures, industrial visits, on the job training etc. The NESC will actively address the dynamic needs of industries and support the socio-economic growth in the region,” the statement said.
