The Tihu Police arrested on Monday the fifth and the last accused who was absconding in the Nalbari horrific gang rape case of a married woman in a moving car. The accused has been identified as Merajul Haq. He was arrested by Tihu police from Nalbari district near Arikushi.

Earlier, the police arrested four accused involved in the incident. The incident occurred last Wednesday when a married woman was allegedly gang raped by five men in Tihu. The five accused are – Nurul Ali, Bakkul Nath, Kishore Mohan Das, Rupdhan Ali and Merajul Haq.

It may be recalled that the horrific gang rape incident took place on October 24 last when the victim was on her way to the market in Nathkuchi Village under Tihu area and the three accused (who were known to her) stopped their vehicle (Maruti Suzuki Alto car bearing registration number AS-01-DG-3056) and offered to drop her. But, instead of dropping her home she was raped in the moving car by turns for hours. The other two accused, according to the victim, boarded the car later.

After committing the heinous crime the miscreants dumped the victim near the Karkabari forest area with her hands and legs tied. The victim was rescued by the locals who reported the incident to the nearby police and thereafter on returning home the victim told her family members about the “harrowing” incident.

Later, the family members of the victim filed an FIR at the Tihu Police Station. Police were hot on the heels of the ‘rapists’ and arrested two accused – Nurul Ali (25) and Bakkul Nath (25) on the same day. The other two were arrested on Friday and on Monday the said accused was arrested. The police have also seized their Alto car where the five accused committed the heinous crime.
