The market is an attempt in bringing a temporary relief to the need of an organized platform for market promotion of the products prepared by different woman SHGs under Assam State Livelihood Mission.

Mangaldai legislator Gurujyoti Das inaugurated the market on Saturday.

The programme was also graced by several prominent people including chairman of Mangaldai Municipal Board Manik Sil Sharma, district development commissioner Sweety Gogoi Kalita, executive officer of the civic body Hemashri Khanikar, vice chairman Zinkul Ali, city project manager Manash Das and its nodal officer Amulya Saharia among others.

In his inaugural speech, legislator Das hoped that this unique kind of market which is very rare in the State would definitely attract the buyers from different corners of Darrang district.

The initiative would also help in transforming the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal of women empowerment into reality.

Meanwhile, talking to Northeast Now, a section of the members of the SHGs including Snigdha SHG, Lakhimi and Pragati SHGs who have been ably guided by their community resource persons (CRP) namely Purabi Ray Saikia, Jesminara Begum and Hiranmoyee Saikia Deka have expressed satisfaction over the response of the buyers on the inaugural day of this weekly market.

“We are delighted. The people’s response to our home made food staff like laaru, pitha, pickles etc are excellent,” they said with much enthusiasm.
