Lok Jagran Manch, a citizens’ forum in Dibrugarh of eastern Assam has started awareness campaign among citizens to come out and cast cent per cent votes during the ensuing Lok Sabha election.

On April 1, Lok Jagran Manch started the awareness programme.

It is often seen that during election in Assam less percentage of votes were cast on earlier occasions compared to other parts of the country.

The first phase of parliamentary election to be held on April 11 and five constituencies will go for the first election. Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Tezpur and Koliabhor will go for first phase poll.

“Our main objective of the awareness programme is to spread a message to the masses to come out during election and vote in support of their chosen candidate. We are spreading the awareness programme for cent per cent voting,” Bisurju Mech, a member of Lok Jagran Manch said.

He said they have launched door to door campaign and touched every household to create awareness among the citizens.

However, it seems that during election in Assam people observe a bandh and don’t come out to caste their votes.

“It is very important for every citizen to know his or her right to caste his or her votes. It is one of best democratic process where you can choose your representative by casting your vote,” said another member of the Manch.

On the other hand, Dibrugarh district administration has also launched several awareness programme like ‘run for vote’ etc to create awareness among the citizens to caste his or her votes during election.
