The Dhubri Youth Congress Committee (DYCC) has lodged an FIR against Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP’s) Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev at the Dhubri Sadar Police Station on Monday. The DYCC has demanded that Dev be arrested.

The complaint signed by Altaf Hossain Mondal, president of DYCC, stated that Dev during his Dhubri visit on Sunday tried to “drive a wedge among the people with his communal statements. His statement has hurt the Muslim community in Assam. He is trying to divide the people on the basis of religion”.

In the complaint it was further stated that Dev had made a remark vis-à-vis the recent bomb blast in Guwahati that – ‘would ULFA chief Paresh Baruah dare to carry out such an incident of bomb blast in Dhubri, Barpeta or Goalpara just before Eid?’ – “By making such a statement, the MLA is trying to target the Muslim community. He is instigating the terrorists to target the Muslims,” Mondal stated.

The DYCC also said that MLA Dev had “insulted the Supreme Court (SC) by questioning the authenticity of the final draft NRC when he said that lakhs of Bangladeshi Muslims names have been included in the final draft”.
