The female teacher allegedly committed suicide after intimate photographs of her were posted on Facebook

Police have arrested a man for allegedly abetting suicide of a TET qualified teacher posted in a lower primary school in western Assam’s Dhubri district.

The headmistress of Bherbheri LP School under Bilasipara Education Block in Dhubri district allegedly committed suicide on Thursday night by hanging herself after intimate photographs of her were posted on Facebook and other social media platforms by her male friend Sahalam Ahmed.

The photos were allegedly posted by her male friend Sahalam following a fight with her.

A case (no 86/2019) under section 306 of the IPC has already been registered against Sahalam at Bilasipara police station in the district and further investigation into the incident is under way.

“On the basis of preliminary investigation and evidence gathered from the spot, we have registered an FIR against the accused under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC. We are also investigating about the involvement of other persons, if any into the incident,” Dhubri (HQ) additional superintendent of police (ASP) Nirupam Hazarika told Northeast Now.

Mother of the deceased has already arrived at Bilasipara police station and awaiting for her son who is coming from Dehradun and likely to be reach on Sunday noon.

The body of the deceased headmistress has been kept in the morgue of the Dhubri Civil Hospital.

In a similar incident in the district, a male TET qualified teacher from Mariani in Jorhat district committed suicide after some persons had made an obscene video of his wife and blackmailed him.

Ribul Phulmali, a TET teacher in a sar area of Dhubri since 2012, had jumped in front of a train in Mariani.

He had posted a suicide note on his Facebook wall minutes before his death, alleging that a few persons in Dhubri town, where his wife and son resided, had made obscene videos of her. They then blackmailed him, compelling him to commit suicide.

Police later arrested four persons for allegedly abetting the suicide of the teacher.
